A legend says it was built in the time of King Rama 4. Somdej Phra Puttajarn To persuaded the local people to build the temple and then moved one of the Buddha images which was Luang Phor Wat Rai Kling to be the center piece in the temple. A Second legend says the temple had already existed, and the Buddha image was brought from Sala Poon Warawiharn Temple to be the centerpiece. Since this Buddha did not have a name, the people then called it "Luang Phor Wat Rai Kling" or the Buddha of Rai Kling Temple. Every year, there is a festival to worship the Buddha image. Wat Rai Kling was renamed "Monkol Chindaram (Rai Kling) Temple" in 1913. The centerpiece Buddha, called Luang Phor Wat Rai Kling, was unique with the figure in the Chiang Saen era style, the hands in the Sukhothai style and the face in the Rattanakosin style.
Wat Rai Kling is located on the bank of the Nakhon Chaisi River in the vicinity of Amphoe Sam Phran. Luang Phor Wat Rai Kling, the principal Buddha image of the temple, is highly revered by Nakhon Pathom people. An annual worship fair is held in April. This temple is also renowned for its natural fish sanctuary which is the habitat of hundreds of thousands of fish including big catfish which can weigh up to 10 kg.
